Welcome to Hammond United Church
Welcome to the Hammond United Church website. We are a small congregation but we are very committed to our faith. There are people of all ages here, from young families, through the middle years, to retired and senior members, even a few teenagers. Sunday worship is the cornerstone of our congregation and is a chance to ground ourselves in Jesus’ teaching and God’s will for us each week, as well as the fellowship and friendship of other people here.
Services are informal and easy to follow. Congregation members share in the Bible reading, serving communion, and leading the service when the minister is away. No one owns a place in a pew and people wear whatever they feel comfortable in, from their Sunday best to their blue jeans. Babies crying or little children exploring during the service don’t bother us but we do have a baby room attached to the sanctuary, where children can play while parents listen to the service. We always have a fellowship time after the service and a chance to chat with each other over a cup of coffee, tea, or juice.
There are also lots of opportunities to be involved with the church during the rest of the week. A group gets together each week with the minister to explore and discuss the Bible reading for the week, which helps the minister prepare her sermon for the Sunday service. People are involved in Clusters, that take on particular tasks around the church that fit with their skills and interests. Outreach into the community and the world is also very important to us. Members of the congregation have been involved in preparing taxes for seniors and people with low incomes in the community, helping out with Christmas activities at the One Way Club (a local social activity centre for people with alcohol or drug problems), collecting food and winter mittens for the local food bank. We look for opportunities to live our faith.
We hope that you will join us for Sunday worship or any of our other activities.
You’ll be welcome here.
